Lashes, whether classic or fans, are placed individually lash per lash, by hand.
Tips on how you, as a client, can make the process just a little faster:
-Come with no mascara on and contacts out
-Use restroom when you get to appointment
-Don't have caffeine before appointment
-Tell friends and family you won't be able to answer your phone for awhile and put on vibrate
-Lay as reasonably still as you are able to
-Never open your eyes during the session
-Be conscious of exaggerated expressions with your face, it can move the tape and/or your eyes.
