Lash Extension 411 Part 1: The Different Types of Lash Extension Volumes Explained

I know that it can seem overwhelming when you first start reading up on lash extensions. Not only is there tons of different styling maps, but there are all these different choices for volume.

This post will focus on volume. No matter what kind of styling you choose, the first thing your artist probably wants to know is what kind of volume do you want. This refers to the density of the lashes. The styling and length are other factors, but these can all be different regardless of what volume you choose. Let's start with choosing our volume.

What separates a classic lash versuses higher volume sets is what we call a lash "fan". This simply means that with a fan, per every one of your real lashes, the artist may attach 3+ lashes. This gives you more volume then the one per one ratio.

Half-Set Classic lashes are a newer trend. This typically refers to every other lash being lashed, as compared to every single lash. This is the only choice that is not every single natural lash with an eyelash extension on it .

This creates a very natural look. The benefits include less maintenance, possibly less time between fills, less of a time investment, and less money.

A Classic Lash set is the next most natural set. You could play up a Classic set more dramatically if you choose a long length, or stay with something simpler. This set is a good starting point to see if eyelash extensions are right for you. Classic sets can be simple and natural, or they can classy and eye-catching. The choice is yours.

A Hybrid Lash set is a combination of classic (1 natural lash to one extension ratio) and fans. This look is fuller than classic, but not quite "Volume". Hybrids are a good choice if know you want and like extensions, but want to avoid the weight of a volume set.

A Volume Lash set is fans on every natural eyelash. Fan count can be modest or more dramatic.

A Mega Volume Lash set is the fullest option. This typically refers to upwards of 7 extensions per 1 natural lash. These sets usually require a consultation, as the natural lashes must be healthy and strong and able to support this look. Mega Volume also costs the most to have applied and filled, as it takes more supplies.
