L.E.D. Light Therapy: What Is It?

Updated: Apr 10, 2023

There are so many modalities for skin treatment now, it's hard to keep up! Technology advancements have offered more painless and easier accessible solutions for some of our ailments.

L.E.D. stands for light emitting diode. By using different colors of the light spectrum, we can use these wavelengths to improve cell health and activity.

A few of the common colors include red, blue, purple and yellow. Your esthetician will consult with you on your skin concerns and choose the setting best suited for your needs. This is not a complete list, but rather a brief summary.

Red can be used to help with inflammation, acne, fine lines, and sun damage.

Blue is chosen for it's antibacterial benefits and has shown to help with mood.

Purple can help with inflammation and calming the skin.

Yellow is chosen for redness, rosacea, sunburn, and psoriasis.

Adding light therapy to your facial can leave your face with a glow, but it's most beneficial with a series, just like most other treatments.

Once a week, starting with 5 minutes, not exceeding 10 at first, you will be exposed to the L.E.D. therapy mask. Your eyes will be protected with UV goggles, and you can just relax. This will be incorporated into a facial, or for those short on time, it can be scheduled as a quick, stand-alone.

You can purchase at home L.E.D. masks, but the quality of the technology often does not compare to professional grade technology. As with everything, doing your homework is key.

L.E.D. therapy is FDA approved, non-invasive, and painless.

It is not recommended for those currently pregnant, those with light sensitivity or disorders like epilepsy, and those on medication that makes them more light sensitivie, such as accutane.

Enjoy the added benefit of l.e.d. therapy with your next facial for beautiful skin!
